Playrooms
The upstairs playroom, with adjoining sleeproom, is designed for the under 2s. Our registration imposes a maximum of 16 babies at any one time.
The two playrooms downstairs are for the 2 and overs, with a maximum of 34 at any one time.
We have an outside playroom. This is weathertight, but airy, to allow children an outside experience in bad weather; it may be used by all classes.
Outside
The rear garden area is fully enclosed.
The front drive has gates which may be closed to give a safe play area suitable for bikes or similar play.
Catering
The upstairs room has its own food prep area. The two downstairs rooms share a fully-equipped kitchen.
We follow the Government’s “Setting the Table” guidance. This guidance aims to ensure that children aged 0–5 in childcare settings across Scotland are offered healthy and nutritious meals, snacks and drinks.
We provide a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack for all children; these
include one portion of fresh fruit or veg each day. All allergies are taken into consideration.
Children are served their home-provided packed lunches, hot or cold, at 11:30am. If necessary we can provide breakfast or dinner for children; this is chargeable. Children get the choice of milk (dairy alternatives available) or water at snack times. Water is available at lunchtimes, and other times as required.
Safety
Babes in the Wood has CCTV cameras installed in all of the rooms of the nursery (including in the garden and at both doors). This is to ensure the safety of all staff, children and visitors. Cameras aren't installed in bathrooms/changing areas in order to uphold every child's right to their own privacy.
Staff
All staff have the appropriate PVG and SSSC registrations; are all qualified or working towards qualification; and regularly undergo all necessary courses and training in food hygiene, first aid, etc.
We always meet the minimum staff/children ratios, and often exceed these.
The staff areas are totally separate from the children’s rooms.
