Healthy Eating/Mealtimes

At Babes in the Wood we provide the children with two snacks daily. A morning snack which is served up at 9:30am and an afternoon snack which is served at 2:30pm. The children are served their home provided packed lunches at 11:30am.

Children get the choice of milk (dairy alternatives available) or water at snack times and are served water at lunchtimes.

The children play a vital part in the snack process. Throughout the week the children are given the opportunity to recommend snack items for the following week. With these suggestions we make up our snack menu and share it on our Facebook page to allow parents the opportunity to view the menu, see their child's suggestions and make their own suggestions if they wish.

Snacks include one portion of fresh fruit or veg each day.

We ask that parents provide lunch for their child, this can be a hot or cold lunch as we have a fully equipped kitchen.

At Babes in the Wood we follow The Setting the Table Guidance. The aim of this guidance is to ensure that children aged 0–5 in childcare settings across Scotland are offered healthy and nutritious meals, snacks and drinks.
